Share your voice with Austin Poetry Review

Austin Poetry Review welcomes thoughtful contributions from poets, critics, and literary thinkers. Whether you’re submitting a book review, poetry reading video, participating in Poetic Discourse, or hoping to be featured as our Poet of the Month, we invite you to join our growing poetry community in Bat City.

1. Poetry Book Reviews

We’re looking for reviews on poetry collections published within the last three years. Please send your book review as an attachment to austinpoetryreview@gmail.com with the subject line “Poetry Book Review.” In the body of the email, include a brief bio and a link to the book being reviewed.

2. Poetry Videos

We’re looking for videos of poets reading their own work. Please send a video of you reading one poem as an attachment to austinpoetryreview@gmail.com with the subject like “Poetry Video.” Cover letters are appreciated, and please include a bio as well as an acknowledgement if the poem has been published.

3. Poet of the Month

We’re featuring one poet per month and would love to consider you for the series. Please send an email to austinpoetryreview@gmail.com with the subject line “Poet of the Month,” and in the body of the email, provide a bio and answers to the following prompts:

Tell us about your work in progress.

Share a 3-10 line excerpt from one of your poems that you feel encapsulates your style.

What themes or ideas do you find yourself returning to in your poetry?

Who are some poets or writers who have influenced you?

What are you hoping to explore in your writing next?

4. Poetic Discourse

Austin Poetry Review will be sharing your poetry thoughts as part of our new series Poetic Discourse.

This month, we are asking the following questions:

  • Is the rise of “Instagram poetry” democratizing the art, or diluting it?
  • Is poetry becoming overly obsessed with identity, or is identity its truest ground?
  • Do you write more for other poets or for a broader readership?

Feel free to answer all questions or to pick one or two. Please send your answer(s) to austinpoetryreview@gmail.com with the subject line “Poetic Discourse” and include a bio.

5. Contributor Rights and Compensation

Austin Poetry Review Journal acquires First Serial Rights for accepted work. After publication, rights revert to the contributor. Contributors may republish their work with Austin Poetry Review credited as the initial publisher. All accepted work is published online and often promoted on our social media.

We currently pay $25 for accepted book reviews and $6 for each accepted answer for Poetic Discourse.
